At this price point Blanco makes a terrific everyday wine that won’t break the budget. Buy a case at most retailers and get a 10 percent discount, too. Remaining true to Básico’s Spanish translation of “basic,” this true varietal wine is made of 100 percent Spanish Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The wine is light gold in color with crisp, citrus notes of lemon and lime, 13 percent alcohol, and enclosed with a screw cap. And Básico takes the guesswork out of food and wine pairing by printing pairing suggestions on the back labels. Their suggestions for Básico’s Blanco include goat cheese, tapas, seafood and light fare. I would also suggest pairing it with Spanish cuisine, white fish and seafood salads, most especially dishes with acidity that are lacking in creamy richness. Serve well chilled at 45 to 50 degrees. Drink this wine in 2010 at its peak of freshness.
