Photographer, Chuck St. John; Stylist, Tracy Robinson; Banana Republic trousers and corset vest, BCBG blouse, Juicy Couture charm bracelet, Rolex watch, Donald J. Pliner boots; Photographed at Hair Reflections.

Q: Your first Hair Reflections in 1986 was a tiny space on Highway 119; now you have an expansive modern salon at the Summit—to what do you attribute your success?

A:  Following your dreams, and a lot of hard work. I had to learn to be a business owner, which you don’t learn by being a hairdresser. I have been fortunate through the years to hire the right people, and my employee retention has more than exceeded industry standards.  Continued growth and success comes from learning daily and traveling monthly.

Q: Has the hair industry changed during that time? If so, how?

A:  The industry always changes, just as fashion changes.  As far as the business, technology has entered our world. We are totally paperless at Hair Reflections, everything is done by computer.

Q: Do you have a mentor in the business?

A:  Vidal Sasson

Q: How would you describe your personal style? Any style influences or celebrities you admire?

A:  Classic with a twist.  I love Marc Jacobs and Tom Ford. And I admire the way Fergie is able to be a pop icon but walk the red carpet with style.

Q: How has your style—both wardrobe and hair—changed over the years?

A:  It changes constantly. In the ’80s my hair was blonde, big, and curly. In the ’90s, my hair was long, short, and everything in between. Now I’m sleek and blonde. As far as my clients, while they may not want what is cutting edge in hair style, they want to know whats going on. And if you wear it you usually sell it.

Q: What was it like working at New York Fashion Week this Fall?

A:  My visit to Fashion Week was inspiring because there were so many entities of artistry, each artist doing his or her own expert craft. It was the collaboration of those talents that was the genius behind the shows.

Q: When you style hair for photo shoots in New York, Paris, etc., where do you get your inspiration?

A:  I am inspired by the people and the fashion you see in these great cities. My Paris shoot was inspired by romance; we actually shot in our hotel room under beautiful chandeliers, using the bed and chairs as our props. Paris is the city of romance, how could you not be inspired?

Q: What is one of your favorite hair products and/or tools?

A:    Dimoda finishing spray, because you cant feel this product in the hair and it can be used wet or dry. And our signature Enzo Milano clipless curling iron, which actually holds the hair when you curl with it and no product is needed. You can make three different curls with one curling iron. We’ve offered free instructional classes at Hair Reflections, and the iron is packaged with a DVD. The return of the curl is here!

Q: You are a hair color expert and have been mentioned as such in Glamour and Harper’s Bazaar magazines...so what is your natural hair color and how many different colors has your hair been over the years?

A:  My natural color is medium brown. But being a colorist, I have been about every color you could think of. The most unusual color it has been was very dark brown with chunks of white and bright red. I am currently blonde.

Q: Do you color your own hair?

A: I would never color my own hair when I have the best staff in the world!

Q: What are the hair trends for Spring 2010?

A: I see hair getting shorter. But if it is long, it definitely has curl and is full and soft. We’ve seen long, flat ironed hair for eight years now. It’s time for short and sassy, or curls for days!
