The Glamorous Life
Getting the most out of every day

I admit that I start romantically fantasizing about warmer climates and destinations during this time of year (but still thankful that I have a few more months to work off all the holiday snacking I did!) and so I am all for the lovely distraction of February’s glamorously romantic holiday, Valentine’s Day.
Planning for a special time together is exciting, and after 23 years of celebrating the day with my valentine, I have learned that keeping it relaxed and fun always makes it a more glamorous celebration. There are many romantic and lovely spots around Birmingham and always some exciting events going on during the month to mark the occasion. Here then are a few suggestions that I think add that extra touch to the celebration and that help to make it a glamorously memorable date. Cheers!
Of course, along with your own special places, there are a few spots in B’ham that I think are very romantic. And, although I won’t tell you all of mine, I think seeing the city lights at Vulcan Park is beautiful!
Something I am looking forward to this year is the Michael Feinstein concert along with our very own talented Alabama Symphony Pops Orchestra. Very romantic music!
I think it is worth the splurge to have dinner at one of these wonderfully romantic restaurants:
Hot and Hot Fish Club
Highlands Bar and Grill
Café Dupont
danielgeorge
Leonardo’s Italian Restaurant
Satterfields
For romantic tokens of love consider checking out one of our many art galleries for a small piece of art by their favorite artist, or browsing one of our great antique stores for a piece of antique jewelry. A small bottle of a favored perfume is always appreciated and a book of poetry or love letters from a local bookseller, or tickets to an upcoming play, or concert, are always special, thoughtful gifts.
Schedule massages for two at one of our wonderful spas. A couple of day spas I have really liked are Santa Fe Day Spa & Richard Joseph Salon Spa and The Spa at Ross Bridge.
Attend a wine tasting! So fun and informative, and very glamorous!

And I, for one, never get tired of flowers and my favorite very dark chocolate!
Since Valentine’s Day actually falls on a Sunday this year, going out to a wonderful brunch would be fun. And you just can’t beat a romantic breakfast in bed, with the works; trays, flowers, French Toast, coffee, maybe something from Chez Lulu/Continental Bakery!
For Sunday Brunch check out:
The Veranda on Highland
Another Broken Egg Café
Dyron’s Lowcoutry
And on several occasions, staying home, ordering our favorite take-out and putting in a movie has been the most romantic Valentine’s Day of all!

There is a misconception about what glamour is. First, what it is not.
It is not about age, or looks, or money, or your address. Glamour, is
a state of mind. Visit http://mybirmingham.blogspot.com to learn more.
